Canandaigua Community Sailing Adult Lessons

Canandaigua Community Sailing offers adults sailing lessons on beautiful Canandaigua Lake for beginner through intermediate/advanced levels. Group sessions, small-group keelboat classes, and private lessons are all offered.

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email so we can update it immediately.

CCS lessons are held at Canandaigua Yacht Club. No membership is required. Group sessions for beginners run from mid-June through mid-August. Each session is two weeks, Monday - Thursday, for 2.5 hours in the evening. Participants will follow the US Sailing curriculum and learn boat rigging, steering, sail trim, reading the wind, docking, and other skills necessary to be competent, self-sufficient sailors. Instruction is primarily in Sunfish sailboats. An intermediate/advanced session will be held from August 23 - September 2, which will focus on more advanced boat handling skills and some racing skills and will utilize 420 sailboats. If the lesson schedule doesn't work for you, please contact our instructor, John Murphy, to see if alternate arrangements can be made. His contact information is on our web site. Group lessons and small-group keelboat instruction (leading to the US Sailing Keelboat certificiation) can also be arranged, on demand. For those with kids, a 3-day family class will be held during 4th of July week.
