Join the City of Irving as we celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This year's celebration will feature dance, song, poetry, and art performed by the Dallas Black Dance Theatre and Kamica King.
The City of Irving is also hosting its annual essay contest, in conjunction with the city’s annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. observance. 2024's theme is: 60 Years of Illuminating Change: Celebrating Dr. King's Nobel Peace Prize Legacy. Head over to IrvingEvents.org to read the essay prompt, watch Dr. King's Nobel Prize speech, and submit your essay.
Essays can be submitted beginning Nov. 27 - Jan. 2. Essays should be no more than a page in length or 500 words and will be judged on clarity, grammar, and how well the theme is developed based on the writer's age. The contest age categories are: grades 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12. Contest winners will read their winning essays during the observance that will take place at 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13 at Carpenter Performance Hall in the Irving Arts Center, 3333 N. MacArthur Blvd.
